Boštjan Gombač & Eduardo Raon (SI/PT)
Boštjan Gombač, duduk, replica of the world's oldest instrument, clarinet, bass clarinet, melodicas, slide whistle, lyre, pocket trumpet, fluegelhorn, bodhran, vocals, sound objects; Eduardo Raon, harp and electronics
Boštjan Gombač and Eduardo Raon first played together in 2021, as part of the Cankarjevi torki’s Solo - Duo - Solo series which was live-streamed at the time. In addition to performing extensively over the past two decades, the artists have written and recorded music for a large number of theatrical and dance performances, documentaries, animated and feature films and radio plays. They have released more than 200 CDs.
The JFL project promises to be much more than the art of two musicians on two instruments. This is because Gombač & Raon are “mavericks” among the classically trained musicians, driven by restless creative spirit into taking on new challenges, new projects and, above all, creating new sound worlds. Such an approach unmistakably generates a thrilling musical experience: the concert features the artists’ own compositions, blending original music written for film and theatre with improvisation.
Resnik / Lopes / Ber Trio (SI/PT/BE)
Cene Resnik, saxophone; Luís Lopes, electric guitar; Samuel Ber, drums
One of Slovenia’s most active musicians, Cene Resnik, who deserves most of the credit for last festival’s Fire! Orchestra Ljubljana project, has recruited kindred spirits from Portugal and Belgium for his new project. Bringing together three open minds, the Resnik / Lopes / Ber Trio brims with crazy youthful energy, promising an afternoon of spontaneous and fearless music that will leave no one untouched. If last year Julien Desprez fascinated us with his bravura guitar flourishes, the ball is in Luís Lopes’s court now, a guitarist embodying jazz, improvisation and noise all in one. The talented drummer Samuel Ber will ensure the players move in free rhythm and bring a spirit of adventure to their Saturday concert.
