An indisputable icon of the American indie scene, Jeff Parker carved out his career somewhere at the intersection of jazz, improvised music, post-rock and electronica. A member of the epochal band Tortoise, as well as uncountable other ensembles, including the Chicago Underground, Parker has recently released a series of high-profile albums. While The New Breed (2016) and Suite For Max Brown (2020) blend jazz improvisation with loops, self-crafted sampling and a hefty dose of studio manipulation, Forfolks (2021) is an exceptionally airy solo album. His music is hypnotic, repetitive, meditative, mellow, but also exploratory and brimming with sudden surprises. Parker’s latest project is Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy. Recorded live, the album is a long-form groove-sustained improv, rippled throughout with subtle changes and melodic interplay at a leisurely pace. Its striking feature is the perfectly measured balance of basic repetition, solo passages and dexterously introduced modulations. Distinctly modern, yet firmly grounded in tradition.

Due to the cancellation of his European tour Ben LaMar Gay will not perform at the 64th Ljubljana Jazz Festival.
