Ljubljana Jazz Festival, round sixty-five!
We are pleased to announce this year’s edition which takes its usual place in the first half of July, once again with the park as the central hub of the festival and with the opening set in the unique ambience of the Križanke open-air theatre. The festival features a programme that pays hommage to the roots and at the same time celebrates distinct contemporary expressions, running through Recife in northern Brazil, the American “jazz triangle” of New Orleans, Chicago and New York, with a detour to Stockholm and, of course, the homerun.

Začenjamo v Križankah z obiskom New Orleansa, zibelke jazza, od koder prihajata prvoligaša dveh generacij, Terence Blanchard in Chief Adjuah, prej znan kot Christian Scott. Oba trobentača družijo globoke korenine v tradiciji, ki so se nekje vmes tudi prepletle, a sta njuni kreativni poti povsem različni. Blanchard se kot avtor glasbe podpisuje pod večino filmov Spika Leeja in je prvi afroameriški skladatelj, katerega opero so uvrstili v program newyorške metropolitanke. Inovator Chief Adjuah pa se po tem, ko je svoje razumevanje jazza razpotegnil v nove dimenzije takoimenovane »stretch music«, z zadnjim albumom vrača k začetku: glasbi svojih indijanskih prednikov. Trk mogočnih ustvarjalnih sil v izpovedi afroameriške izkušnje – minule in sedanje.
