Slišali bomo razburljivo in raznovrstno zvočno popotovanje od starinskega swinga in eksotike prek psihedeličnih, naelektrenih do bolj umirjenih skladb z odkritim povzemanjem judovske tradicije.

A return guest of the Ljubljana Jazz Festival, the popular threesome Medeski Martin & Wood (MMW) artfully generates finely-layered and succulent music where jazz gets fused with funky grooves. Founded in 1991, the trio replaced its initial acoustic (piano) sound with electric vibe (Hammond organ etc.) and asserted itself as one of the most original bands. As its concerts attract also rock music fans, especially lovers of jam bands (engaged in free improvisation), MMW functions beyond the parameters of regular jazz. Having dazzled the audiences at the Ljubljana Križanke open-air theatre in 2006, when joined by guitarist John Scofield, this time the trio will offer its own vision of Zorn’s music, as recorded on Zaebos: The Book of Angels Vol. 11 (so far, the Jamie Saft Trio, Marc Ribot, Uri Caine and Erik Friedlander, among others, have tried their hand at this new series of Zorn’s endeavors). The trio succeeded in adopting Zorn’s aesthetics superbly, investing it with its unmistakable sound. We will hear an exciting and diversified soundscape, ranging from old-time swing and exotica through psychedelic and charged works to more placid pieces, throughout openly drawing from the Jewish tradition.
