Kje pa, The Dreamers zveni milozvočno, sproščujoče, »lepo«. Lenobno drsi čez eksotiko, surf in lounge, tu in tam odmevajoča morriconejevska kitara doda malce napetosti, a se kaj kmalu s havajskimi kitarami zaziba do naslednjega vala … »terasa« jazz, kakršnega v naših hotelih nikoli ne bodo igrali!

John Zorn’s discography, towering reverentially before an uninitiated person, comprises several thematic cycles: from compositions written for the Masada project to the current series of works entitled The Book of Angels (also called Masada Book Two) as well as several other series, among which also… yes, you’ve heard right... Music Romance! Dreamers is the fourth album in the series and the sequel to The Gift from 2001, which, among others, is Zorn’s tribute to the musical genre of exotica – a style exercised by US big bands in 1950s, coupling Latin American music expression with jazz and pop. The Dreamers line-up is basically the same as with the Electric Masada (less Ikue Mori), but its sound is a far cry from the unrestrained improvisation practised by Masada. Nothing like it, The Dreamers give off a sweet, diverting, and “beautiful” sound. Leisurely, the soundscape spins from exotica, surf and lounge music, while occasional Morriconesque guitar motifs add a taste of tension, but are soon stilled by the Hawaiian guitars, already riding the next wave … Lounge jazz, as one can only wish to hear at Slovenian bars!
